The MObile LABoratory (MOLAB), part of the IPERION CH and consisting of mobile facilities for in situ non-invasive measurements, visited the laboratories of CATS on application by Senior Paintings Conservator Troels Filtenborg on behalf of the Hirschsprung Collection and SMK.

The analyses aims at increasing the understanding of the degradation of Prussian blue and lead white mixtures in Danish Golden Age paintings using non-invasive portable techniques. The MOLAB multi-technique approach will therefore allow an overall study of the blue paint layers of the artworks, with a deeper focus on spectroscopic investigations. The final goal of the research project is a clearer understanding of the degradation process in the blue paint layers correlated with their sources and/or origin of production in order to improve conservation, preservation and exhibition strategies.
